Born in Croatia in 1892, Josip Broz Tito came into this world being raised by a poor family. He was the seventh child of Franjo and Marija Broz. His father, Franjo Broz, was croat, while his mother Marija was a slovene. He spent half of his childhood living with his grandmother in Podsreda. Once he graduate Josip worked as a mechanic before he conscripted into the Austro-Hungarian Army in 1914. He was sent to a school for non-commissioned officers and became a sergeant, serving in the 25th Croatian Regiment based in Zagreb. In May of 1914 he won a silver medal at an army fencing competition. At the start of World War 1 Josip was sent to Ruma, where he was arrested for anti-war propaganda. After being released from prison he was sent to fight against Russia, where he became the youngest sergeant major in the Austro-Hungarian Army. Though during his time fighting in Russia he was badly wounded and taken prisoner by the Russian army.
After 13 months of being locked up he was sent to a work camp. At the camp he was selected by the prisoners to be work leader. He was freed from the camp by disgruntle workers. Three years later Josip joined the communist party of Yugoslavia. In 1935, Tito traveled to the Soviet Union, working for a year in the Balkan section of comintern . He was a member of the Soviet Communist Party and the Soviet secret police. On 27 June 1941, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia appointed Tito commander in chief of all project national liberation military forces. On 1 July 1941, the Comintern sent precise instructions calling for immediate action. It is said that Tito ordered his forces to assist escaping Jews, and that more than 2000 Jews fought directly for Tito.
Josip had two emenies that he fought to destroy. These enemies were Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler. Josip fought to help the Jews and keep them safe, while on the hand Hitler and Stalin's goals were to get rid of any Jews, traitors, or people that were not supportive of them. Hitler in fact sent Otto Skorzeny to execute Josip but failed. Because of Hitler's and Tito's disagreements they both attacked eachothers armies with great force. What Josip really wanted was to have peace in Yugoslovia and convert Yugoslovia into Communism. Since the converting of Yugoslovia into Communism, Josip fought long and hard for what he wanted. This made him extremely hard-headed, conceided, and overly stict. Though he wanted peace in Yugoslovia, he was very violent. He forced small farmers to furnish large portions of their produce to the state, eventually causing frequent famines.
Omar Hassan al-Bashir

Omar Hassan al-Bashir abused his power as governor of Sudan by changing the government system to an old regime of what is called the “Sharia Law.” (www.guardian.co.uk) The “Sharia Law” or what is now called the “Islamic Law” means “a pathway to a watering hole” or essentially explaining that the people must obey all Islamic orders.(www.religioustolerance.org) This meant that the un-Arabic tribes were to be prosecuted or killed if they did not practice any Islamic like religions. (www.guardian.co.uk) Omar Hassan was never elected by the people to govern Sudan, he appointed himself to the presidency of Sudan. This not only justifies how he does not practice any source of government or democratic voting, but how power seizes to take control of the human mind. Therefore, abusing his only rise of power by becoming the only elected man to run for office.
During his reign of presidency, he began to make allies with related politicians who also believed in his “Islamic Law” theory of how a ruler should govern his country. One of his close allies was Hassan al-Turabi, in whom was sneakingly deceived by Omar Hassan after a year of working together.(www.guardian.co.uk) Even though he was making allies with some politicians he was torturing, murdering, and threatening opponents or other professional politicians who were “anti-Islamic Law.” This defamatory use of power was beginning to get out of hand by Omar Hassan. As months would pass during his reign he would begin to kill or rape minority ethnic groups, women, and children. When in doubt he killed 400, 000 people, he was known to be sent to jail since he was given the title as “the first national leader indicated by the International Criminal Court.”(Rumbidazi)
Solely after Omar Hassan al-Bashir was going to jail he left the country with revolutionary uprisings in smaller towns. Omar Hassan was persecuted with war crimes and crimes against humanity.(www.Rocklin.k12.us)Not only was he an egotistical man, but he made secret oil trades with China and Russia using up the countries economic savings. (www.Rocklin.k12.us) He was beginning to get out of hand, and the national court orders were beginning to see how his rise of power was killing a vast majority of people and millions being disappeared. Omar Hassan al-Bashir was an abominable man who had no heart towards the people he had killed.

Cuba had already been communist since 1920 but what Fidel Castro did was in overthrow the government of Fulgencio Batista. On January 1st 1959 with only eighty-one followers with him they over threw it and forced Batista to flee. This is the second revolt that he led because the first one he tried in 1953 fail and was captured as a prisoner. He then was released early from his exile and was in Mexico for the time but snuck back in Cuba and led the successful revolt that put him in power. He was in power for until 2008 when he resigned and gave office to his brother.
The US CIA planned an attack on Catsro that was called “The Bay of Pigs”. The Bay of Pigs was an invasion on the southern part of Cuba and work our way up to Havana and take him out of power because of all the things he was doing. The US was also scared that he would spread communism to us there for we felt he should be stopped. Also scared that he would steal our boats that contained raw materials and other goods because we are about 60 miles away from Cuba. In addition he shot down our planes and killed four of our pilots.
He also abused his power from the start with his human rights issues. In his early years he imprisoned a large number of people and put them in jail with no trial. Cuba is intolerant of gays as well. He won’t let them marry and imprisoned some gays in his earlier years. It’s also a very hard life to live in Cuba. Once you live there you need permission from the state to do anything, move houses, change jobs, and leave the state to another which is for the most part always denied of approval. A lot of people do use internet but are always under very close surveillance by the government due to any outside conspiracies.
Idi Amin Dada Oumee
ReplyDeleteBy Spencer Pitts
Idi was a middleweight contender who was very a successful boxer, almost a celebrity. Amin was very athletic and had a big love for sports. He would visit sports camps to boost players or athletics. His love for sports dated back into his youth, he was once before an East African heavyweight boxing champion, a swimmer, basketball, and also rugby player. It was said that one of the most vivid images of a sporting event was in 1974 when he rolled up his sleeves, mounted the podium, and knocked out Peter Sseruwagi. Idi was known for his synonymous knockouts.
After Idi gained control he started a rampage of killings and his other personalities began to emerge. The personalities were merciless, unpredictable, and a cunning liar. Idi had things that he called the “Killer Squads”. They murdered Obote’s supporters and two Americans, who were investigating massacres. It was clear that Idi’s supposed friendliness were only masks to hide his brutality. Since the countries of Israel and Britain didn’t want to sell Idi weapons, he savagely attacked them in 1972. Finally when a man named Mu’ammar al- Qaddafi of Libya agreed to help Idi, he immediately threw Israelis and fifty thousand Asians, Uganda’s economy was wrecked. As you can understand, Amin used violence and terror to eliminate his real and imaginary enemies.
Most of the funds that was supposed to be for the government was devoted to the armed forces and to Amin’s safety. All the most important things such as health, transport, production of food, cash crops and etc were badly neglected. By the 1970s Idi was running out of the luck, the economy was getting worse and worse. It was becoming difficult for Amin to import luxury goods for his army. To distract attention from his country’s internal crisis, Idi ordered an invasion of Tanzania in October 1978, they did this because the plan was to overthrow its government. Amin’s army was forced back. Tanzanians and exiled Ugandan soldiers e=invaded Uganda and continueduntil Idi’s government was overthrown on April 11, 1979.

The first abuse of power was the purge of all political prisoners in a murderous campaign called the Caravan of Death. “…and operation carried out by a group of army officers in October of 1973 during which were executed at least seventy-two political prisoners (www.derechoschile.com).” This is an abuse of power because was taking away their consent to choose those that govern them. Pinochet also abused his power because he organized the murder of dozens and suffered no judicial consequence. On the other hand, if the situation consisted of any ordinary person organizing the murder of seventy people, the consequence would almost certainly result in their death.
“Torture and detention center of Chilean Citizens (www.greenleft.org)” who opposed Pinochet, Villa Grimaldi was the core of fear of political prisoners. The site of at least 226 disappearances, or assassinations; and nearly 4,500 detained and tortured prisoners, Villa Grimaldi is a site of terror (www.greenleft.org). Pinochet’s concentration camp exploited his power by dissolving any legal structure for due process of law. With the loss of due process by law, we are taken back to the Middle Ages when judicial systems consisted of little to no structure.
Pinochet “imposed strict censorship (www.countriesquest.com)” in Chile under his regime and for example “banned over 1,092 politically charged movies like ‘missing’ (www.nytimes.com).” This type of strict censorship creates a cloud that prevents the people from creating their own opinions. Indoctrination of the nation through censorship allowed Pinochet to shape the opinion of the public. People have the right to know the truth and voice their own views; however Pinochet abused his power and took that right away.

Benito Mussolini

For as long as man has lived we have yearned to be in control and have power over things. But that power can sometimes be to much to handle and that is when things fall apart. Benito Mussolini was one of the worlds worst dictator's because he abused his power in numerous ways.
Benito Mussolini played a major role in the organization of fascism in Italy. "Fascism is the attitude of giving full interest in economic, social, and military power to a dominant race or state lead by a single dominant leader". In march 1919, Fascism became a political movement when Mussolini founded the Fasci de Combattimento. The Fascist party was extremely violent and sooner than later, spread to many areas of Italy. The Fascists also gained control of the police, The more control the fascists gained the less freedom citizens of Italy had. Mussolini formed Secret police and assignation teams (also known as black shirts). They were to instill fear into the citizens of italy , and they were to keep in line anyone who oppossed Mussolini. In 1924 elections were held under a corrupted electoral system, inevitably fascists won. Not everyone was happy with the final decision especially Giacomo Matteotti, the socialist party's parliamentary deputy and one of the most effective critics of the regime. He proclaims that the election was a scam. "Soon after he was kidnapped and brutally murdered by Mussolini's press office. "Since Benito Mussolini had control over everything , he made all teachers sign an oath defending fascism in all schools. He also abused his absolute power of the press, in order to build up a legend of a political savior, the "Duce, a man who was always right and could solve all the problems of politics and economics.
While Benito Mussolini was in rule he used the military to his own selfish disposal. After the first crisis while in charge, the people of Italy considered him a hero. This happend on a border between Albania and Greece. Mussolini ordered several men that represented Italy to the area, as part of a International Commision to discuss the issue that was occuring. "On August 23, 1923, All the Italians were murdered and discovered in Greek territory." Frustrated, Mussolini sent the Greek goverenment a brief list of demands that he expected to be met. This included immediate inquiry into the killings, payment of 50 million Lira within 5 days, a public apology, and death sentence to those convicted. At first the Greeks denied the demands , because they were unsure if it was the Greeks who committed the murders. As a result Mussolini ordered the Italian navy to bombard Corfu,(kerkya) off the Greek coast, the bombs were followed by the infiltration of Italian marines. Shortly after "the League of Nations condemned the act, Mussolini threatened to pull Italy out of the league." Immediately the Greek government agreed to Benito Mussolini's demands. In 1935 , Mussolini seeked to expand the Italian Empire in eastern Africa. On October 3rd, Mussolini ordered the invasion of Ethiopia. The "raid" lasted seven months, and the Italian forces used air power and chemical weapons to gain the win on Ethiopia. Immediately after Mussolini announced the victory to a ecstatic crowd of 400,000 people in Rome. Two years after the invasion" 30,000 Ethiopians are executed, after a failed assassination attempt on the Italian colonial governor.
Another way he abused his power was by creating massive amounts of propaganda, this is what Mussolini was best at. "Films, radio, education- all were carefully supervised to manufacture the illusion that fascism was the doctrine of the 20th century that was replacing liberalism and democracy". All newspaper editor’s were personally chosen by Mussolini himself, and anyone without a certificate of approval from the fascist party could not practice journalism.

One tactic that Qing used to gain appeal was the manipulation of her husband, Mao Zedong. As the Cultural Revolution arose, Mao Zedong’s reign began to grow unpopular, and Mao looked to Qing for help. He gave her some political power, but it didn’t seem to appease her hunger for control.(www.encyclopedia.com) As time progresses, Mao became sick and Qing became even more power hungry. Qing was one of the few people Mao trusted, and she abused it by stealing power. Mao finally gave Qing some real political power in 1966, and she emerged a political threat. She grew increasingly more powerful as Mao grew frail and left the political sphere.(encyclopedia.com) Up until the death of Mao Zedong, Qing became a force to be reckoned with, and became one of the strongest women in Chinese history.
While Qing held power, she made her influence known, and damaged culture and education in China. Being an actress as a small girl, Qing was fascinated with Chinese culture. When she came into power however, she grew disgusted, and wanted to change it. She blamed the public for the straying away from traditional culture. Qing called for a revision of Chinese culture, and refined what was taught was taught in schools, thus slowing education(encyclopedia.com). As her power and influence widened, she became obsessed, and began to use force. Countless cultural artifacts were destroyed and education eventually came to a standstill. Qing’s desire for power, as well as her love for culture, made for a destructive combination, angering nearly all of China.
As Qing reached her peak, in terms of political power, countless civilians were killed. Qing had now become crazed with control. She headed a political organization, “The Gang of Four”, who nearly controlled all aspects of society in Cina. Qing, as a result, grew very unpopular, and internal rebellions occurred. In hope to put down the rebellions, Qing ordered the Red Guard to kill civilians, as well as her enemies. She received short-term success, but as soon as her husband died, she was arrested, and charged for the murder of millions of civilians. Qing’s need for control eventually led to her downfall. Few people have ever been so hated in all of Chinese history.
Adolf Hitler

One way Hitler abused his power was by taking advantage of people and jumping at any opportunities to rise up on the metaphorical food chain of power. This was shown when after losing the election to become leader of Germany to Paul von Hindenburg who later appointed him as chancellor of the country but died in less than 1 year and 6 months leaving Adolf as chancellor and president, two jobs he put together to make himself in a sense a sense a supreme ruler, the Fuher. Once he obtained his power in Germany he tried to keep hold of it and ensure he stayed in power by using fear and force to keep people quiet and from disagreeing with him, for instance he got rid of people he didn’t want around by sending them to concentration camps (Jennifer Rosenberg). I believe that his methods of keeping people quiet were quite effective in keeping people from trying to take power from him and stay in power but at the same time were a bit hostile.
Another way he abused his power was by violating the Treaty of Versailles which Hitler hated and opposed and also causing the start of World War II. This treaty was created after World War I in an attempt to keep Germany from rising up again and causing as much damage and harm as they did during World War I. The treaty basically put full blame on Germany for the damage caused by the war and limited Germany’s military size and forbid them from invading other countries. In spite of this, Hitler expanded the size of his military and invaded the Rhineland an area between France and Germany sort of testing his limits. “Hitler later admitted that he would have backed down if the French and British had challenged him (Beck et. al. 483).” ,but after seeing that France and Britain decided to let Germany have those areas by deciding on appeasement which they did hoping that Germany would just stop there. Seeing this Hitler took it as a sign of weakness and also annexed Austria and invaded Czechoslovakia but France and Britain still decided on appeasement once again. “But when he had his forces enter Poland in August 1939, the world could no longer stand aside and just watch -- World War II began.” (Jennifer Rosenberg).” I believe that that Britain and France should not have waited so long to stand up to Germany because if they would have so many deaths could have been avoided.
One final way Hitler abused his power was by killing millions of Jews and sending many to concentration camps to work as slave under harsh conditions where they died from diseases hunger or where they were just plain out killed in cold blood. “From the Nuremberg Laws in 1935 to Kristallnacht in 1938, Hitler slowly removed Jews from German society. However, with the cover of World War II, the Nazis created an elaborate and intensive system to work Jews as slaves and kill them (Jennifer Rosenberg).” Hitler also had to keep the German people from start thinking that they shouldn’t treat the Jews as they were treating them so “He created massive amounts of propaganda that strengthened German pride by blaming all their problems on Communists and Jews (Jennifer Rosenberg).” I believe that Hitler was a monster and should not have been allowed to gain so much power and cause so much harm to people, but luckily he was stopped and his reign was over.

Death and Labor camps was one of his abuses of power. These were made for those who went against what Zedong was doing in the government. Among the people there were of course the critics of Mao were all put in what he called "re-education" camps. I am guessing this was a sarcatic name but if someone were to survive these camps they probably would be re-educated on what and what not to say. The number of deaths and casualties is not for sure but is projected to be very large. Majority of the people there that were not killed were permanently effected from the abuse that their bodies had taken, forced labor, and their bodies not recieving the nutrients needed since the weren't fed regularly. Remind you of any other dictators from the list?
As his reign as dicatator progressed and all the things he promised started to fail people started questioning his right to power. He showed more abuse of his power with the spring famines. A famine is when there is either no food at all or it is very scarce. This was probably why they said he was the cause of a genocide. It is projected that from 20 million to 65 million of his own people were killed due to this famine. That is alot of people who had to die just to keep your own power. Before the famine ocurred china population was 646 million people.
Last but not least there was the cultural revolution. This was to me Mao's most blaitant attempt to get rid of his opponents. Mao realized the he could no longer have the CCP do his dirty work for him so he turned to forces outside of them. So once again many of his opponents were take and put in camps. In these camps people were tortured, humiliated, and killed. Mao was known to take something normal and use it to torture a person. One thing he did was to tie the person up and drop a drip of water once an hour. after a while the victim starts to lose their mind waiting on the next drip to hit. The number of people who were killed, committed suicide, and just died isnt even known. Most were from minorities, a party background or came from an educated strata.

Under Than Shwe’s commands a million Burmese people where shipped to slave camps and jungle gulags. There they build bridges, oil pipelines, irrigation systems, and military camps. The people of Burma must perform manual labor for ten years. Hundreds of families are abducted during military raids and forced to clear the jungle. He denies that the slave camps are as bad as people say they are, but survivors who have escaped have a completely different story. A man explained how a he and his youngest son managed to escape but had to leave his wife and eldest there breaking rocks at the roadside. (Dan McDougall)
In Burma there is no such thing as free speech. Universities have been closed down by the regime. If you are caught speaking to a journalist you can be tortured and thrown in jail with no questions asked. Even owning a computer or fax will get you some time behind bars. Phones in Burma are also monitored leaving the people of Burma with absolutely no privacy. In 2007 Buddist Monks protested over freedom of speech hoping to make a difference, but instead they were beaten, murdered, and detained.(Dan McDougall)
There have also been rumors about thousands of monks and other Burmese people being executed and their bodies simply dumped. Everyone is treated the same no matter what your age is or your gender you are just a slave and an animal to Than Shwe. While others are working and being slaughtered under his orders his daughter received a lavish and beautiful wedding. She received strings of diamonds and gifts worth ten million dollars or more. I find it very disturbing to think about all the lives he has destroyed and how he still carries on with his perfect life day after day.

On September 20, 1935, eighteen year old Ferdinand Marcos shot and killed his father’s political rival, Julio Nalundasan. The event of Ferdinand killing his father’s rival was the turning point of the start of his dictatorship. Marcos was sent to prison but because he was a lawyer he knew how to get out of it. He and his biological father persuaded the judge to set him free(notablebiographies.com). Marcos shouldn’t have been set free. He should of at least paid a fine or spend time in prison.
Ferdinand Marcos made his own self powerful. After he became president, he made himself in charge of everything. He even became the prime minister. He called for martial law and instead of only running for 2 terms he re-elected himself and ran for 20 years. He rigged elections and manipulated public opinion. He was only allowed a certain amount of time to rule but since he was in such a high position he took advantage and rigged the elections.
Marcos stole millions from his own country for his benefits. He stole about 10 million from the national bank of the Philippines(Komisar). He secretly stashed the money in Switzerland. It was said that he and his wife, Imelda Marcos, became one of the richest couple in the whole world. Instead of using the money for the good of the country, he used the money for personal uses. He should have used the money to help improve and better the country.

Benito Mussolini was so much before he was known as being one of the world’s worst dictators. But what made him one of the worst dictators? He declared war on numerous countries. He killed an amazing amount of people. Last, but not least, he abused the materials he had access to.
Mussolini wanted to gain more land or territory for his country. So he would annex random countries. Since he was mainly focused on getting territory in the Mediterranean and Northern Africa, he annexed Eritrea, Libya, and Somalia. But, in October 1935 he declared war on Ethiopia. This war lasted for only about 1 year. Then about a couple years later in October 1940 he declared war on Greece. This war lasted about a year as well.
Later on during his rule, which was during World War 2, he joined the axis powers. When he was part of the axis powers he had access to many more inventions or what they were used back then weapons. He had access to the Mustard Gas, which would basically kill you slowly and painfully. He also would use chlorine, chlorine was a type of chemically that would burn you and hurt your eye sight.

Ever met a Dominican Republic Dictator who had so much hatred against Black Haitians well there was that somebody who was born and raised in San Cristobal, although this dictator was a mixed African and European as well as his grandmother was a Haitian*- he was an openly racist towards that type of crowd. He just couldn’t help but to make their lives worse when he had all the power! the most worse thing he could do was in October 1937 he got his army plus local population sent them to kill all the Haitians. What he also did was killed 20000 blacks because they could not pronounce “r” in the word perejil which is known for the Spanish word for Parsley.
After running for president against Vasquez Trujillo won by 97% of the votes so right after he went and got a secret police and immediately after he knew he would rule the area he was in at that time which was where he was born, but while ruling he also spent some of his time in France. "I have no more desire to take over Santo Domingo," that was a quote that was once said by him in 1965 (http://www.google.com/search?q=rafael+trujillo&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7RNRM_en#sclient=psy&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us%3AIE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7RNRM_en&tbs=tl:1%2Ctl_num%3A20&source=hp&q=quotes+from+rafael+trujillo&aq=2&aqi=g4g-v1&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=3ece4bbf7ce578bb&biw=1655&bih=824) as bad as he wanted to take part in ruling in Santo Domingo he just couldn’t because of all the time he had to spend ruling in his area. June 13 1938 he was named second principal order of the Dominican Republic, surprisingly this dictator was a huge baseball fan so out of all the sports in the world he kept that one sport going in his town the team he was supporting was Los Dragones of Ciudad Trujillo while the other team he did not really care for Estrelles Orientales Of San Pedro
This dictator had hate towards many races so when people were trying to confirm the number of people massacred it was said from 12.000 to 25.000, how he did this was by jailing people and touring them, for example women, men, and even children. The reason he abused his power so much was because of the hate he had so much against the Haitians! And nevertheless all he could do was put them thru hell he was left with no other choice well at least not in his case. When he was announced president he tried to also assassinate his opponent. A quote from him that was said was ("If you don't eliminate him, we will invade".) and was said even before mad president.
Paul Biya
ReplyDeleteBy:
Alejandro Martinez
One of the ways that Paul Biya abused his power was “The Ghadafi of Black Africa”. In February 2008, hundreds of people in the city of Douala were killed by Biya’s security forces. “The people felt forced to stay inside their homes due to the overwhelming negative motivational influence of Biya’s troops” (Juliette Abandokwe) (www.saharahreporters.com). “Many party leaders were hurt by bat beatings, and others were arrested. The first day about thirty people were arrested and were kept in an overcrowded unhealthy prison with no right to a fair trial” (Juliette Abandokwe) (www.saharahreporters.com). This is an abuse of power because it’s a human rights violation, people should be able to walk around there city knowing that they won’t get beat up by some ones armed forces.
Another reason why Biya is a horrible dictator is that he is wasting the Cameroonians money like crazy. “Biya’s family owns huge houses in France and Germany. Not only that, he also has many timber and mining companies. Biya isn’t being smart in spending his money and has caused the bankruptcy of the bank company in Cameroon” (Stephane Ballong) (www.afrik-news.com). This is another way to indicate the wrong doings of Paul Biya and his abuse of power. He should be more attentive on his country instead of buying all of these mansions that he doesn’t really need.
Once again Paul commits another wrong doing by sending his troops to kill innocent people. “In February, Biya’s security forces killed at least 100 people during some protests opposing price rises and the constitutional amendment stating that it would extend the term of the president” (report2009.amnesty.org). “As part of a way to prevent the opposition, the authorities made a negative act towards the human rights violation including arbitrary arrest, unlawful detentions and the rights of freedom and oppression” (report2009.amnesty.org ). Therefore this is an abuse of power because he violated many rights.
Kim Il Sung

Kim Il Sung was a very power hungry North Korean dictator who
controlled the people of North Korea with fear and power. He was
considered almost a god on earth to the people of North Korea. They
worshiped him and would have to bow to him and show their respect and mostly fear of him. The people were constantly afraid of ever looking like they did not love him or like they weren’t loyal to him. There is a reason to all of this. He had many people sent away to prison camps sure enough they would never be seen again. He made his people withstand a purge that took thousands of lives. He controlled them with this fear of them thinking that if they are ever heard of speaking poorly of him or anything like that they most likely wouldn’t be seen again. He was involved with Stalin and the communist party and almost imitates the way Stalin controlled his people. No surprise they are both communists. Kim Il Sung was a horrible leader with a very large ego and violent temper that didn’t care about how his actions impacted his people.
The people had hardly any money and limited food. He is a war
mongrel and wanted an enormous standing army of one million men to
intimidate South Korea and other countries. This takes up all of their
money and the people worked for practically nothing. An estimated 1.6
million of his own people dies because of him. He showed no remorse at
all for what he put his people through. And even after all this they still
claimed to love him and say he is such a great and generous man. He did nothing for his people but take lives starve people and kill innocent
abused people for no reason other than personal purposes and greed.
His son the current dictator is the exact same way. He was also always
threatening to invade South Korea actually has before. A person like that
will never do any good to anyone and should be stopped before they get
as powerful as he did.
Kim Il Sung is the type of person that could never be trusted and
should always be kept under control. He was a threat to every country
around him and especially to the South Korean people. He was the reason for the Korean War which took around 3.5 million lives from both sides and tons from the U.S. He invaded South Korea and was horribly cruel and committed war crimes. They captured around 50 thousand South Koreans and returned 6 thousand. They did about the same with the Americans. The world would have been a much better more peaceful place if he wasn’t in it.

Born Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili on 21 December 1878 in Gori, Georgia, in the then Russian Empire. He was his mother's fourth child to be born in less than four years. The first three died and as Joseph was prone to bad health, his mother feared on several occasions that he would also die. Understandably, given this background, Joseph's mother was very protective towards him as a child.. His father, a cobbler, is a violent alcoholic who becomes estranged from the family. His mother is a seamstress. She is devoted to her son, who she nicknames "Soso", the diminutive of Joseph. The young Stalin also takes the nickname "Koba", after the hero of a popular novel. All kulaks, criminals, and other anti-Soviet people to be repressed are to be divided into two categories," the order stats. The first category is the most hostile of the enumerated people. They are subject to immediate arrest, and after their cases have been considered by a three-person tribunal (troika) they are to be shot. In the second category are the other less active though also hostile elements. They are subject to arrest and imprisonment in a camp for 8 to 10 years, and the most evil and socially dangerous of these, to imprisoned for the same period in prison, as determined by the three-person tribunalMeanwhile, Stalin helps supply the German war effort, providing the Nazi regime with oil, wood, copper, manganese ore, rubber, grain, and other resources under a trade agreement between the two nations. Stalin views the war against Germany as a conflict "between two groups of capitalist countries", saying there is "nothing wrong in their having a good fight and weakening each other." Stalin is named 'Time' magazine's person of the year for 1939 for switching the balance of power in Europe by signing the nonaggression pact with Hitler, a decision that is described as "world-shattering". "Without the Russian pact," the magazine says, "German generals would certainly have been loath to go into military action. With it, World War II began." In December 1939, to celebrate his 60th birthday, he is awarded the Order of Lenin and given the title 'Hero of Socialist Labour'.
Jean-Claude (Baby Doc)

It might be a shock to you but Jean-Claude became dictator of Haiti when he was a teenager. One of the things that made him such a horrible person is the fact that he ran the bank like his own person piggy bank. He would take money out to make himself wealthier and better himself. What he wasn’t doing was putting the money back.. Baby Doc, as some like to call him, had a wedding. HE went crazy and spent $3 million for it.
For every action there must be a consequence. For Baby Doc’s crazy spending it was causing financial problems to his country. No one could take out anymore loans and take out money. For this action he made everyone poor and was arrested.
One of the main reasons of Baby Doc being the way he is, is because of his father. His father was also a dictator, Papa Doc. In my opinion I don’t think Jean-Claude would have been a dictator if his father was. His father was involved with thugs and very bad things. Baby Doc was obviously influenced easily by his father. Which led to dictation and jail.

The task of rising to power after being raised from the peasants was not easy, yet he made it happen. He first started out as a peasant boy born and raised, he was born into nationalism. Then, he joined an anti-Japanese guerilla army ran by Chinese communist. After the Japanese pushed the army back, Kim IL Sung fled to the north to the Soviet Union and joined the red army. Quickly, Kim IL Sung rose to power and eventually became captain of the army. After these events, it wasn’t too long, before Kim IL Sung could gain enough power to take over.
Finally, Kim IL Sung gained the title of ruler of the Chinese Korean work party. Thereby establishing himself and the most powerful Korean communist in the Soviet Union. After this rise of power, Stalin recognized his potential and offered him aid with his new found leadership. Kim IL Sung was now Prime minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. For Nearly 50 years, Kim IL Sung was determined to make Korea a place that was controlled by the government in every single way. To establish a secret police, Kim looked to his old mentor Stalin for some advice on how to get things started. Kim also had a system of punishing those who disobeyed the law or posed political threats to his “System”. Kim also, made it so that they could only watch or tune into one station that he controlled, if changed to another outside station, that person would be punished to the extremity for being prejudice.
After his death, his son Kim Jong II assumed control of his throne, and started right where he left off. Kim Jong II turned North Korea into the world’s first communist democracy. Even with this achievement, Kim Il Sung would not be impressed by his son, because his son had a lot of half-done attempts at raising money for the country. Even with all of these failed attempts, Kim IL sung still left his mark as a dictator with all of his believers and followers, which makes Kim IL Sung an eternal demigod.

The killing of 200 protesters was one of the reasons why he became so bad of a dictator he wanted to become now a prime minister that he didn’t want people not to vote to him he sent his troops to kill all the protesters that didn’t want to vote for him. If it wasn’t for that killing of people he wouldn’t had been reelected and another person would’ve had taken his place, he finally won the reelections in 2005 and he became a prime minister but still didn’t change the laws that he had and kept making mistake after mistake.
He’s interest in fighting a pointless war caused him to pay millions of dollars. He wasted millions of dollars on a pointless war with Eritrea the border war caused a death of 70,000 people and it also caused a poor country to pay millions of dollars to fix everything after the war. He could’ve just fix the border and not fight for it. He could’ve wasted less money on that and that money that was left could’ve helped the hunger or could’ve gotten them medicines for the deceases. While people were dying of starvation he took that money to just waste it on some pointless war.
There is hunger and aids in Ethiopia but the country is so poor that people die every year for that. He could make so many things with the little money they have but the prime minister now wastes money on pointless things like war the buying of weapons for the war. He has been so bad of a dictator or prime minister which doesn’t make a difference because he still makes the laws people just want him to step off his position and let someone else rule he had made so much people suffer since 1990 until 2011. People from all over Ethiopia just want to stop suffering.
Francisco Franco

One of the decisions that made Francisco Franco a dictator and a tyrant is that he supported Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini even though his country was in a neutral ground from the war. He dissolved the Spanish Parliament and established a right-wing authoritarian regime that lasted until 1978. Although he remained Spain a neutral country because of the damage from the Spanish civil war, he still supported and volunteered the Blue Division who fought with the Axis power on the Eastern Font. He was initially disliked by Cuban Fulgencio Batista, who during World War II had suggested a joint to U.S. – Latin America assault on Spain.
Francisco Franco also kept the idea of concentration camps and genocide camps. He got this idea from the Nazi’s of Germany who used this method to keep Jews away from there land and/or to diverse them away from all the non-Jews. But instead of putting Jews on concentration camps and genocide camps, he put all his enemies who went against him and all the people who went against his rules. While in the camps, he forced them to work for him until they are too weak to work for him. This scared Spain’s people to go onto his side and to obey all the rules that he make all the time.
Death penalty and heavy prison sentence are also one of his weapons to use against the people of Spain. He mostly used this to keep them in control at all times under his control. Over 30,000 people have suffered from this event that made him a more tyrant dictator. Mostly all the peoples were executed after the Spanish civil war when Spain was still recuperating from the damage during its own war.
Mao Zedong

One way that made Mao Zedong is a bad dictator or remembered as a bad leader was for being responsible for the cultural revolution. The Cultural Revolution had a big impact on china. It started in 1965-1968. The Cultural Revolution damaged the country economically and socially. Millions of people suffered from abuse including torture, rape imprisonment and seizure of property. Mao Zedong was low on his power during the 1950’s and feared that someone else would take his power. The way that he thought he could be able to gain power or keep it was by launching the cultural revolution.
Mao Zedong was responsible for the great leap forward as well. The Great Leap Forward was launched to develop agriculture and industry. Mao believed that both had to grow. Industry could only be good if the workers were well fed. During the Great Leap, the Chinese economy initially grew. Iron production increased 45% .The Great Leap resulted in millions of deaths. Terror, violence and starvation were things used in the Great Leap Forward. It was known as one of the deadly killings in human history.
The Mao Zedong genocide was another negative point toward Mao. The genocide of Mao Zedong was where thousands of people were ordered to be killed during his revolution. Mao Zedong killed more people than Hitler and Stalin's deaths put together. The reason for the genocide was that Mao Zedong wanted to keep up with the western side. Setting a goal to equal the production or get it higher. Land was also taken from the farmers and that led to having less money for food. That also caused famine. People such as citizens disagreed of the rapid change but that only had led them to there deaths.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo
Obiang’s uncle was Guinea's previous ruler, Francisco Macias Nguema. He was a military governor and then head of the National Guard during a bloody reign of terror during 1970. Half of the population was killed or wounded. Obiang took power in 1979 and put his uncle on trial. When Macias started talking about what Obiang did, he cut the hearing short. Obiang sentenced Macias and later had him shot.
Obiang promised to be more kind and gentle than the previous ruler. According to slate.com, in 1990, they found that offshore oil was discovered and also about $700 million. The people of Guinea remained as poor, homeless, uneducated, and unhealthy as ever. Instead of putting the money into a transparent government account and using it for a good cause, Obiang used the money for accounts he personally controlled at Riggs Bank in Washington, D.C.
Obiang once said he can kill people without anyone calling him to account for it and without going to hell because it is God who talks to him and gives him strength. In January of 2010, he held innocent people in a secret detention for no reason. While the people were held hostage, he tortured them and forced them to confess to an allied coup attempt. After they were tortured and forced to confess, they were executed in August that same year.
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi

When Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was six years old his father was abdicated from the throne and exiled from Iran he was the only heir to the throne. To gain more knowledge on being a king Mohammad was sent to a military school until he was eleven years old coming back from the school to gain his throne he got some startling news. Mohammad Mosaddeq a zealous Iranian nationalist (Britannica.com) was struggling for the throne against Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. The United States had heard of this and wanting to put a democratic government in Iran the US decides to help Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to spread democracy. Soon terrorist groups started to rise and rebel against Pahlavi’s rule like the Taliban who went on to invade Afghanistan to live there instead and anti-US groups who planned attacks on America.
Mohammad put out many reforms that would help Iran’s economy and save money that also spread land equally to farmers and peasants. These reforms were working but many went poor as prices went up later in the years and people started to wonder where most of the saved money went. Soon many had known where the money had gone when word of the anniversary for Iranian monarchy was approaching and Pahlavi spent 100 million dollars to help prepare and celebrate. Pahlavi bought 160 acres of land to build a tent city that was made into a star formation with 3 humungous tents and many smaller tents. All this money was used for royalty when it could’ve been used to help the poor from starvation.
The people of Iran were poorly educated from lack of schools and school supplies so Mohammad out of the goodness of his heart helped to pay for the education of his people. When this was done many more schools were built and more people had been going to school for better paying jobs and teach their own children if possible. During this time school attendance rose by 78.5% and schools were full of students ready to learn more to do more. Although when business owners and markets heard of this they wanted more educated employees working at their marketplaces instead of poorly educated people. After the hardworking employees were replaced with the educated employees they lost money and started to blame Pahlavi for what had happened.

First, Rafael Trujillo was helped by the U.S to gain power in the Dominican Republic. “He may be a son-of-a-b****, but he is our son-of-a-b****” (Cordell Hull). When he was at power he created a secret police to kill anyone who opposed him under rule and was disliked by all Dominicans. The CIA‘s Black Operations was created to overthrow Trujillo from the thrown because of his abuse of power. Dominicans and other people in the government services hated Trujillo but knew they couldn’t do anything or else they would be killed. They tried everything and Eisenhower knew that is they didn’t do anything the people would surely do something and create a revolution just to end him. He abused his power because he wanted to be wealthy for his own purposes. He killed the Haitians for their race and other personal issues. He changed the city’s name from Santo Domingo to Ciudad Trujillo and he also changed a mountains name from Pico Duarte to Pico Trujillo and he changed the names due to the power he was abusing.
Second, Haitians killed in October 1937. He killed approximately 12,000-25,000 people including men, women, and children. He had all Haitians killed because the Haitian Government had most of Trujillo’s undercover agents executed. He signed the Trujillo-Hull when Roosevelt had invited him over for dinner. Roosevelt had Trujillo sign a treaty so that all massacres and other type of evil mishaps ended that day. Haitian’s wanted peace but since both sides of the parties had killed many soldiers on their side they weren’t able to convoke peace with the Dominican Republic. "It's certain that American public opinion won't condemn Castro until we have moved against Trujillo." ( Eisenhower) is what he had said while Trujillo was at rule. Haitian Government disliked Trujillo’s undercover agents snooping around in there city looking for trouble that’s why the Haitians had them executed and was in a conflict between them and the Dominican Republic
Third, he became the U.S Latin American Anti-Communist for the Dominican Republic. He was chosen for high-quality standards in the army and was chief of the National Guards, which he used to abuse power over the Dominicans. He was under the influence of temptation which ended up causing his death on May 30, 1961, his own officers (Antonio de la Maza, Salvador Estrella Sahdalá, Lieutenant Amado García Guerrero, and General Antonio Imbert Barrera) shot him down in his car while Trujillo was headed to a Bar called EL PONY. This proves that no one in his country shared any love but hatred against him. He started declining as soon as he started changing the name of the city and other roads and building also when he killed the Haitians and tried to make himself look like a “good image”. He died due to the way he ruled which was unfair, poor, and plain ridiculous. Eisenhower was right about Trujillo but only the CIA would listen to Eisenhower who had warned him about Trujillo."If you don't eliminate him, we will invade". (Eisenhower)

If you were a democratic-activist you were bound to get killed sooner or later by one of Than Shwe's officers. He killed lots of people due to dissent of his opinions. Taking away the freedom of speech from the Burmese people was another way that Than Shwe abused humanitary rights. This was an abuse of power because he killed many people due to personal reasons of himself feeling empower over everything and everyone
Buddhist Monks decided to put an end to the burden of injustice they were facing in Berma. During the uprising in 2007 led by Buddhist Monks, 30-40 Monks were found dead in the 100 people killed under the orders of Than Shwe. The uprising began due to the sudden 66% rise in fuel prices; it has been the biggest act of defiance since the student uprising of 1988.- www.dvb.no/Francis Wade.
This dictator would be best described as pure evil. He has made the Burmese people live within his walls of fear. The people of Burma live in fear because of the events that have taken place before them.Such events include villages that were burned to the ground, the death of innocent civilians, and the dissapearance of people. there were many horrible ways soldiers of Burma killed including; murder, beheading, and tortured to death. the soldiers of Burma had no mercy, they killed all including women, children, and men.

One of the most horrible acts committed by Robert Mugabe was the brutal murder of Zimbabwean opposition party member Paston Chipiro’s wife. Her name was Dadirai Chipiro; she was 45, and a former pre-school teacher. Apparently the men who killed her pulled up in front of her house and were looking for her husband. Then later on they came back to kill her. Both of her feet and hand were hacked off, a petrol bomb was then thrown through her window, she was left so severely burned that she was unable to be properly placed in a coffin. This is unacceptable; he uses fear and torture to provoke people for his own needs.
He has shown a great deal of racism towards whites. Although he has also evicted African Americans off of their land. He and his allies seized land from nearly half of the country’s commercial farms. He has even told white farmers to leave their land. An eviction order came to effect for thousands of white farmers. Nearly 3,000 white farmers have been told to leave their land. Robert Mugabe even warned that there will be consequences for those who refuse to leave. This is completely unfair; these farmers’ rights are being violated. They are still citizens of Zimbabwean and should be treated fairly and with respect, all of the citizens.
He has even been accused of rigging elections for 18 years. He had his henchmen steal civil servant postal ballots. And he is now pressing for new elections in 2011, even though MDC leader says that they cannot take place without reforms and constitutional review. But there’s very little chance that Mugabe would even allow a free or a fair election, because then most likely his power will be removed and he’ll lose. Which is unfair, the people of Zimbabwe have a right to be able to vote for whoever they want. And Mugabe is taking away that right by using fear, intimidation, and rigging the ballots.

He did not do all of his horrible things by himself, he had friends to help him.
Mullah Omar made negotiations with many people. He negotiated with one of The United States of America’s most wanted criminal. He negotiated with Osama Bin Laden. Osama Bin Laden helped Mullah take over Afghanistan. Osama new Mullah’s plans and he decided to become a team. When Mullah became dictator, Osama had been planning a terrorist attack on the United States. Mullah helped Osama with the terrorist attack and also sheltered Osama after the attack. Mullah became an enemy of the United States after that day.
Mullah is pronounced to be dead but a civilian announced that it is false. The United States has been tracking down Mullah since the 9/11 attack and haven’t had any success in finding him. The United States will spend more time looking for him, now that Osama Bin Laden is dead. Another civilian announced that Mullah has gone out of the country. He is no longer in Afghanistan but Taliban and Pakistan also reject the fact that Mullah is dead. There is a lot of questions with Mullah that still need to be solved.

Jean-Claude Duvalier extorts a lot of money from they country. He spends a lot of money for him and his family. In 1980, Jean spends an estimated 3 million a wedding for him and his wife Michele Bennett. In addition, the Bennett family is a family that runs corrupt businesses and drug running. Therefore, Duvalier who has lots of money combines with a real corrupt family. Duvalier takes money from the people, when the money could have gone to helping out the needy or health care. http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/duvalier.html
During the rule of Jean-Claude, there was very little political freedom. Protesters where not aloud to protest towards the government. The government troops would chase protesters to make them stop or to scare them. In addition, they would start shooting at the protesters on some occasions. One time the solders chased the protesters into a schoolyard and killed three children. First reason how Benito Mussolini took power was he forced the teachers to sign an oath fascism in schools. The teachers had to follow the order that Mussolini told them. If the teachers would not obey the order that Mussolini ordered he would do something to the teachers in the school. They might even die because of his fault. No matter if they had to listen to Mussolini if they liked it or not.
Second reason, absolute power of the press, resulting choosing his newspapers. Which included his influence upon all of Italy? If anyone went against his will he would have them assassinated. He wanted to look good in front of all his people in his country with his influence he was known throughout Europe.
Third reason, the voters favored the fascism. He also created and held the supreme military rank. He made a official title that his excellence which was the head of the government. The people would vote for him, so he would still be the leader of the country. Mussolini influenced, or achieved admiration from, a wide variety of political figures.

Undoubtedly, Ferdinand Marcos was a sinister man and so are his methods of obtaining whatever it is the he wants. He was infamous for killing Nalundasan (Ferdinand’s father’s presidential opponent) with a .22 caliber rifle while Nalundasan was celebrating his victory over Marcos. Ferdinand was just 18 at the time and he was convicted of murder by a district court in November of 1939. He was in jail until his appeal was taken up in the Supreme court in 1940. He managed to overturn his conviction even though there was vigorous evidence of his guilt. Every presidential election he had was rigged so that he will ultimately win. For instance, the presidential election of 1965 was supposed to be an automatic win for Marcos, but Macapagal did not step down like how it was arranged. Macapagal was in the same political party as Marcos and he was going to step aside to allow Marcos to run for a term as president. In response, Marcos joined the opposition Nationalist party and easily won the election. In 1969, Marcos became the first Filipino president to win a second term; however, the people were not very happy with that. This was the start of the downhill fall that the Philippines will have to endure.
(Notablebiographies.com)
Within weeks of his reelection, Marcos dealt with the most violent protests in Philippine history. Students and citizens protested against his rule. The Filipino communist party resurfaced as a threat, students wanted educational reform, and a Muslim separatist movement were all threats to Marcos and his government. Especially the Communist threat. Marcos was a huge anti-communist that is why he was supported exceptionally well by the government. Marcos answered to all of these threats by declaring martial law on September 21, 1972. Under Martial Law, everything was transformed. Demonstrations, strikes and protests were outlawed. Marcos assumed absolute legislative power. Media was rigorously regulated and newspapers were not permitted. The whole country was being governed by an unscrupulous man and type of government that severely affected every citizen of the Philippines. (Moreorless.au.com)
Near the end of Marcos’s rule as dictator, he was able to accumulate millions of dollars. He is one of the most notorious dictators who had stolen more than hundreds of millions. He stole money discreetly to benefit him personally and his rule. Marcos was suspected of stealing at least 10 billion dollars from his country before he was overthrown in February of 1986. The Philippine government has spent more than 15 years of trying to track down and figure out where the money has gone. Some say that much of the money had been secreted away by Swiss bankers. All of the money that he has stolen left the country crippled. The majority of the population was very poor while Marcos and his wife lived a life of great luxury, extravagancy, and opulence. They were incredibly avaricious. (Inthesetimes.com)

Some dictators are voted in, in hopes that they’ll do the right thing for their country, but Stalin took the position himself. There was no vote; he just took it when the opportunity came. It was pretty evident that Trotsky (Stalin’s eventual rival) should be the heir of Lenin (the leader before Stalin). He seemed right for the job of ruling Soviet Russia. But… just a month before Lenin has a stroke in May 1922, he introduced Stalin. Lenin made Stalin the General Secretary of the Communist Party, where his rise to power began. He had complete power over who participated in the communist party, so he appointed his own supporters while Lenin is home for a month, recovering from his stroke. When he got back, he realized what Stalin was doing, and tried to reassure Trotsky’s power, but had a second stroke in December 1922. He’s, then, put in isolation when Stalin convinces Lenin’s doctors to do so. There are many attempts to prevent Stalin from taking power as Lenin suffers a third stroke in March 1923. In 1936, Stalin succeeds in removing the opposing candidates and takes full power. Stalin didn’t fight fair by putting all the balls in his court. He removed the challenging people from office and took every advantage that came his way. He used what power he had to full advantage over other, potentially better, candidates. (History World.net.)
At first, Stalin seemed like a good guy (other than the previously mentioned), but soon, people discovered that Stalin liked things to go his way, and his way only. Soon after taking gaining some control, he decided that people shouldn’t manage themselves; they shouldn’t be self-controlled and self-motivated. They should be controlled by the government. Soon after that, during the civil war, Stalin began killing those who he believed weren’t loyal to him. In a few months after September 1918, an estimated 800 socialists were executed. After Lenin died and Stalin took full power, the deaths increased substantially. He threatened people who disobeyed with arrest, execution, and confiscation of property. Basically, Stalin made it so that if you disobeyed him, your life would become hell, or you would be killed. No one could go against him if they wanted a good life (as good as it could get under Stalin’s rule, anyway). He basically took away human rights, which is wrong, of course, because it’s a right. (Simkin)
Dictators tend to kill a lot of people, as did Stalin, who killed millions of people. Many people believe Stalin killed 20,000,000 people while in rule. If people knew more about Russia’s history, they would realize that 20,000,000 is an extraordinary miscalculation that’s missing a few criteria. Red Army and secret police executions, captive and minority deaths, camp deaths, and the Ukraine famine that the Soviets caused are all, amazingly, not included in the death toll. R.J. Rummel, a professor at the University of Hawaii, has estimated that the total amount of deaths caused by Stalin to be about 43,000,000 people in all. If even one person’s death is caused directly by another person, it’s generally viewed as a horrible thing, a waste of a life, right? Well, Stalin killed 43 million people… wasted 43 million lives, lives that could’ve even saved others’ lives, people that had the opportunity to do awesome things. But Stalin took their lives, because it was for the greater great of Russia. How is that so great? (Rummel)

The army would use ground assaults, aerial bombing, deportation, firing squads and chemical warfare. Which the international community would consider deliberate genocide on humanity.
Another way that he abused his power, during his regime was removing people that threatened him with disloyalty. He assembled the Baath party July 22, 1979, in which he read off a list of 5th column. These names were read out loud of the disloyal members. They were arrested, and found guilty of treason. There removal was based on their rights to conspire of new leadership. This was not an option for Saddam, so he would get rid of all those that opposed.
One of last ways, he would abuse his power would be the invasion of Kuwait. Iraq’s dept during the Iraq and Iran war was very costly. It totaled in the high billions, which 30 billion was owed to Kuwait. Kuwait would not forgive there dept, an even lower oil prices. Now Iraq economy would be effected, due not able to compete. One of Saddam belief was that Kuwait was always part of Iraq, along with the oil fields, reserves, and the coast. He would use his experienced and well equipped army to quickly invade Kuwait. He would do anything to build his countries small economy.

Francisco Franco was first promoted to a major-general and placed in the ministry position of war. He suppressed an uprising of miners in the northern province of Austrias in October 1934. In May 1935 he was appointed as the army’s chief-of-staff. Franco was demoted because of belief of him being a conspirator. Franco became head of state, he would go into villages with his men and they would kill everyone in them. From men, to women, and children, the villages were left in flames. (Spartucus.Schoolnet.co.uk)
In 1939, Franco took control of all Spain, becoming dictator he would imprison anyone who apposed him. He encouraged his men to kill, torture, and mutilate the prisoners. From 1939 to 1943, nearly 200,000 were executed under Franco’s regime. Criticism was regarded as treason, political parties were outlawed, universal suffrage was eliminated and the Catholic Church was restored as the official religion of Spain by Franco, none of the people had a say in this but him. (moreorless.au)
1947, the year that monarchy was restablished in Spain, Franco made himself king, basically insinuating that he would be ruler his whole life. Then his son would take over. Franco did’nt have a son though, so Juan Carlos, the man Franco was mentoring, would be the next in line to become king. He actually did something good during his reign, he helped the U.S. during the cold war, although I think he only did it because Spain was anti-communist, and he wanted to get on our good side. But, one right doesn’t fix all the bad things he did, as much as we probably liked his help he was still a terrible person in Spain.(Trueman)
Hugo Chavez
ReplyDeleteby: Chris Chiquillo
One way Hugo Chavez abuses his power is by neutralizing the Venezuelan judiciary. He and his supporters have neutralized the judiciary because Chavez wants absolute control. Chavez and his allies or supporters have filled the national assembly with supporters and have appointed nine judges to the Supreme Court. Chavez has given Venezuela no judicial freedom or independence. He has silenced or detained judges he dislikes like judge María Lourdes Afiuni; in 2009 she was detained when she was supposed to overlook the release of a convict. She has been accused of corruption and is to be tried by a judge who is a Chavizsta or supporter of Chavez. This is an abuse of power because he is making it easier to pass unjust laws because his supporters won’t vote against him. (Periodic review of Venezuela www.hrw.org)
Hugo Chavez also hides money from the people. Venezuela has always been financially weak. Many people in Venezuela struggle because their country is very poor. Venezuela has a debt of 225 billion dollars due to oil alone. An oil company owned by Venezuela has stopped reporting on the amount of money they make in one year. Chavez started his own state ran financial institution but the people aren’t allowed to know what the money is spent on. He is abusing power in this scenario because he is spending money at will while his people suffer. He spends excessively although his country is in major debt. (Coronel)
Hugo Chavez has rigged many elections towards his favor. He re-wrote the Venezuelan constitution to give himself more power when he was elected. In 2004 a referendum was called to take Chavez out of the presidency but at the last moment polling places were moved especially in towns or cities were Chavez is strongly opposed. This allowed him to win and stay in office. He called a referendum later on the subject of re-election and he won so now he will be the leader in Venezuela until he steps down. This is an abuse of power because he is taking absolute power and making his reign in Venezuela unstoppable. (O’Grady)

Raul Castro was one of the people who disliked Batista as a Dictator and from the start he had supported his brother Fidel in the plan of a revolution against Batista. They had planned to attack the federal barracks in Moncada, they had Raul as the distracter to the Palace of Justice. Raul managed to do as planned and had the palace secure but after that Raul and his people had dropped their weapons and walked to the street in civilian clothes. Their plan didn’t go as planned and they ended up getting caught and got arrested; they were sentenced to 13 years of prism. Raul and his people were sent to Isle of Pines prism and from there they had starting making ideas to the “26th of July Movement” which was the name after the Moncada problem. Either way they still decided to continue with the revolution; in 1955, president Batista was in pressure about the whole thing so he no choice but to release Raul and his people. (http://www.biography.com/articles/Raul-Castro-183536)
Raul has always been Fidel’s shadow and basically followed everything his brother did; when Fidel had made the revolution into government he had depended on Raul more and more. So when the revolution was over Raul was the leader of the Communist Party, Minister of Defense and Vice president of the council of state. And he already had other important roles to do as it was, but Raul is famous for the job he had in the military. They had him as Cuba’s top-ranking military officer ever since the revolution they led and is considered the world’s longest defense minister. Now that Raul is president in Cuban Military he is now commanding more than 45 thousand soldiers, and is making his military reach into many aspects of the Cuban economy. (Christopher Minster)
After his brother being president for about 10 years of rule was ended and handed to Raul during a National Assembly. They had chosen Raul as president because they thought he would make a “good leader” leader for his country just like Fidel did. They always say Raul following most things Fidel did and was more like his shadow.

Pol Pot was a very bad man, he was a dictator in Cambodia and killed many innocent lives.
Pol pot tried to “restart civilization.” He tried to turn the clock back to “Year Zero.” He abused his power by basically taking over people’s homes. He forced everyone to the country side barefoot. The people were turned into slaves to grow rice to feed his regime, Khmer Rouge. Culture was outlawed, there was no such thing as education, and religion was banned. He broke many rights. (Ponchaud, François)
Pol pot targeted people that were skilled and educated, even people that were disabled were sent for execution. Pol pot assumed anyone with glasses was smart and w He abused his power by banning professionalism. He wanted to be higher than the “middle class.” He wanted to be the only one with a lot of knowledge and skills. He turned schools into torture prisons during Year Zero. (Lambert, Tim)
Pol pot abused his power by starting a holocaust for Cambodia. He killed about two million people. As mentioned before, he crowed the people in schools that were made torture prisons. He made them burry their own graves and then killed them; they would drop straight into their graves. Babies’ heads were bashed onto trees or anything in front of their mothers. Security Prison 21 had the most deaths and it was located next to the Khmer Rouge regime.(Cambodia’sHolocaust)

To begin with, Franco targeted all the minority groups especially the Catholics. One example was that on the last day of September a bishop gave a long letter titled, “The Two Cities” and explained how the military exiled catholic Spaniards on September 14 at Castelgandolfo. (Preston 29) Like Hitler, he killed or exiled a population of a religion. About 200,000 people died from starvation. When Franco was younger he was raised under this religion. This is a poor choice for a dictator to exile or kill people just for a religion.
Furthermore, Franco basically restricted most of national traditions, language, sexuality, and basically cultural things. He forbade anything that was not considered Spanish. For instance, bullfighting and flamenco were suppressed. Most traditions were being censored. One common group in Spain was the Andalusian. He also suppressed other languages like Catalan, Galician, and Basque. The only language he wanted to promote was Castilian Spanish.
In addition, another target was the women. Franco had a belief that woman were not suppose to be literate. Their real job is to be at home raising the family and care for them. Women were not allowed to be in any university nor any jury. There were secret police around any area where they believe women can be around. Protestors were imprisoned. (hubpages) Also if any woman escapes from any man they will also be imprisoned, the police would put charge as “abandoning the home.”

His parents were in exile there, participating in a Korean,Chinese battle of the Soviet 88th Brigade that fought against the Japanese occupation of Korea. Kim Jong-il was only four years old when the Japanese surrendered to the Allied Forces. Then his family returned to Pyongyang, where Jong-il's father, Kim Il-sung, took power in newly-liberated North Korea.
Kim Jong-il graduated from a university in 1964 and joined the Korean Workers' Party. Over the next three decades, the younger Kim dedicated his life to strengthening his father's image, and increasing his own personal power within the government. Kim Jong-il took control of the propaganda, including all of the arts, the media, and most of Pyongyang's military. During the 1980s, according to some foreign analysts, Kim Jong-il was involved in at least 2 acts of terrorism. The first was a 1983 bombing in Rangoon, Burma, which left 17 South Korean government officials dead The second, a 1987 bombing of Korean Airlines flight 858, killed all 115 people on board.
These incidents were an early sign that Kim Jong-il would take the same foot steps as his father. The younger Kim also demanded absolute obedience and respect from the people, and caused extreme punishments to any who disobeyed him. On July 8, 1994, Kim Il-sung died of a heart attack at age 82. He was named “Eternal President,” and is buried in the Kumsusan Memorial Palace in Pyongyang. After his fathers death kim did not become president right away although kim was the next chosen. He rapidly started eliminating the communists, Social Democrats and Jews from anything that had to do with the political life. Since he had the power, by July 1933 he swept opponents into concentration camps. He sent Jews to the concentration camps (death camps) to work till they were extremely tired. Hitler ordered for the gas chambers to be installed in every concentration camp. Over the decade that Bashar has been in charge of Syria his dictatorship hasn’t been going very well. For many years the civilians of Syria have been protesting against the government they have and against Bashar, as the military forces have been killing the protesters of Syria the citizens have grown even more angry against Bashar. With people fighting for a democratic government the military forces of Syria have done nothing to calm the citizens except by killing those who protest against the government and against Bashar. There have been rallies where Bashar would send in the military with tanks and heavy armed men to calm the people down. There has been saying that the military of Syria have killed about 700 protestants, and more people protest against Bashar because for quite a while the security forces have been killing the civilians with out consent from Bashar and yet he hasn’t done anything to call them off.(Syrian ETF National)
When Bashar took over as president right away he began eliminating his competition by killing them or assassinating them. He has been acused of assassinating ex prime ministers. Yet he denied it and claimed he had nothing to do with the assassination. He also has threaten other leaders from other countries like when threaten Egypt’s ruler. He also been acused of helping terrorist of Iraq Sadam Hussein. The more people protest Bashar realizes the ones who can over throw him so he uses the military to keep the civilians in place but people still continue to rebel against Bashar.
Since Bashar has been dictating Syria he has gone too far with harming the citizens who protest against him. Up to the point where Bashar began to torture a 13 year old boy. With torturing a young boy he is showing signs of the government in Syria to collapse and more people grew angry for this as well and targeting pro democratic protesters. Bashar has gone out of control with the torturing and killing of children and now whats left for Bashar to do next to his people.

In this election Karimov’s oppenent was Abdulhasiz Jalalov. For the third presidental election 81.1% of the people voted for Karimov which made it possible for Karimov to win. The economy is very slow and other then that most of the people are living in poverty. Not only some but a quarter of these people are living in poverty. Even worse being that the income each year having to be $1950 for the capita. In Uzbekistan there is no existing of freedom of religion or speech. The citizens had to face torture sometimes. The bodies of political prisoners were sometimes or most of the times returned to families in coffins.
A protest in Andijan was held on May 12, 2005 which thousands of people gathered to peacefully protest. The citizens of Uzbekistan supporting 23 business men by protesting. These men were on trial for Islamic extremism charges. Storming into the jail gunmen went releasing 23 accused extremist. Not only did they release the accused extremist but they also released their supporters. At the airports there were tanks that the government had sent. Soon enough the women and children that were in the crowd were running for theirs lives because the troops had opened fire.
Later on the government of Karimov had announced that sadly 187 people were killed during this massacre. Islam karimov had hijacked a bus in 1999. At this point Karimov said "I'm prepared to rip off the heads of 200 people, to sacrifice their lives, in order to save peace and calm in the republic... If my child chose such a path, I myself would rip off his head." After that in andijan six years later Karimov proved that he was capable of doing such thing.
My Dictator Roberto Mugabe
ReplyDeleteBy Ana Larios
Robert Mugabe abused power in three selfish ways the first way was he conquered Zimbabwe a really poor state and couldn’t find a way to help them establish their economy. That led him to blame someone so he blamed the U.S and Great Britain for his economy problems. Because he knew that the U.S and Great Britain had an established economy so he wanted to be established the same way that the U.S and Great Britain were. They refused to help him so that led him to take incautious decisions which led to the second way he abused power.
The second way he abused power was in April 19, 2003 it was by forcing his opponents or enemies to have sex with their own children. If they didn’t follow what he told them he would sit them on hot stoves. It has been said that he would take pictures of the injured and tortured. Most of the people in Zimbabwe were either raped or beaten to death it all depended on Robert Mugabe. If he wanted he could have their relatives kill them or if he just wanted to have fun he would keep them locked up until they died most of the other people were locked up in jail it was like if the prisons were their home.
The third way he abused power was by sending his soldiers over to Chitungwiza and going to hotels or private rooms to intimidate people. The soldiers would intimidate most of the men and women by forcing them to undress and engage in unprotected public sex. In that case Mugabe wouldn’t take them to a church to engage he would make them do it public in many disgusting ways. He had many selfish ways of trying to torture, injure and intimidate people. These were three ways he intimidated innocent children and his opponents he was a very selfish ambitious man.

One abuse of power that Mullah Omar and the Taliban was that they took advantage of and hurt innocent civilians. If he felt that you were against him then you were punished. He was against government supporters , school teachers, foreign troops, and aid workers. The Taliban fought coalition forces to death or if it was possible they would capture them. Mullah wanted to kill any afghan who supported the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. (Taliban Militia :Definition from Answers.com)
Another abuse of power was the horrible way that women were treated by the Taliban. Women were forced to wear a burqa which is a dress that covers the entire body but has a little hole so that you are allowed to see. They were not allowed to work or learn past the age of 8unless they were studying the Qur’an. The women could not be treated by male doctors unless the women were accompanied by male chaperones. Women were whipped and executed in public for breaking the laws of the Taliban.
Mullah also abused the power he had by making some laws that we Americans might think are very ridiculous. No pictures, play chess, music or dancing was allowed. This rules seem horrible because they part of our everyday life. Women who had their nails painted would have their fingers chopped off. If you got caught breaking the law the punishments were horrible. If you were a thief they would chop off your hands. Any adulterers were stoned to death. These laws seem very horrifying and would hate to live under this type of government.

During the Cultural Revolution Jiang was one of the main leaders that took control of china’s government. The revolution lasted 10 years, from May 1966-October 1976. She had made propaganda posters, showing her husband illuminated and invincible, a symbol to people that he’s a great leader. She had made speeches to younger people to destroyed artifacts, old books, and defaced temples and monuments. She did this because she wanted power over Chinas cultural life. She suppressed professors from china’s colleges and suppressed some of china’s traditional cultures. She had the professors beaten to death, tortured in public, or had them doing hard labor at another school. (chineseposters.net)
While Jiang`s husband Mao was ill, she had formed a group of people and called them “The Gang of Four”. She made the gang during the Cultural Revolution; she was the leader of the gang. She controlled the communist party of china and her gang was then labeled as the “counter-revolutionary forces”. Jiang tried to seize even more power when Mao turned on her and her associates. But on October 16 1976, a year after he turned on Jiang, Mao died. There was a downfall a month after Mao’s death. Jiang then blamed the Chinese government for all the problems that were happening during the 10 years of turmoil. Before Mao’s death, he told Jiang “do not try to begin a gang of four to accumulate power”. (Dragani)
Jiang was responsible for purging key figures in the cultural bureaucracy and criticized writers who criticized Mao in articles they put out about him. She also purged several people from the communist party of china. It was estimated that she executed and imprisoned about 500,000 of activist and her own people. She even bid for power to go up on the “communist ladder”. In September 1976 the gang of four was arrested. In 1980 they were trialed, Jiang was going to get life imprisonment, but she and the other main leaders wouldn’t confess, so the court gave them the death sentence. This led to Jiang committing suicide a couple months after her confinement. The rest of her gang was given lengthy imprisonment. (Marcy)

Charles Taylor did many mistakes and made himself a bad dictator. First of all, one of his biggest mistakes he did was him murdering and raping. He took advantage of his power and murdered lots of people and raped them. He used sexual slavery which means he kept slaves and raped them then later on killed them. “The Prosecutor alleges that Mr. Taylor is responsible for crimes which include murdering and mutilating civilians, including cutting off their limbs; using women and girls as sex slaves” (charlestaylortrial.com) This man killed many women and children and is now being persecuted for this fact. He used beating and slavery in order for this to happen.
The second biggest mistake he did that made him a bad dictator was recruiting and using children as solders. He abducted the children from their homes and used them for war in the Sierra Leone civil war. He used children from the ages from eight. He sent soldiers and took the children from their homes and turned them into soldiers. They beat the children that didn’t listen to his ruling. “The child soldier, confused cannon fodder in the scramble for diamonds, power and territory, has become a central figure in the prosecution of Charles Taylor” ( timesonline.co.uk). This caused many problems for Charles at the trail.
The final biggest mistake he did was terrorizing civilians, and cruel treatment and causing war for his country. He killed citizens or treated them unfairly if they follow his ruling or opposed his power. During his time in power many citizens died and some even fled the country because things were getting out of hand. His cruel unfair treatment caused chaos for his country. Thanks to him they were involved in a war that should have never happened. “Accused of arming rebels in neighboring Sierra Leone in exchange for illegally mined” ( http://articles.nydailynews.com )
Mao Zedong

One of the reasons why Mao Zedong can be considered a failure is because of his failed plans. For example one of his plans that he was attempting to see through was The Great Leap Forward. In which he would attempt to not only increase agricultural production but industrial as well. He would accomplish this reform by building large communes that could be able to hold approximately 75,000 people, which would be compromised of families. However due to three years of severe flooding and accompanied with bad harvest the levels of production were damaged to an extensive point.
Due to his failure of his plans Mao Zedong gave up his position of head of state to Liu Shao-chi in 1959. However this later caused internal conflicts between Mao Zedong and Liu Shao-chi because Mao Zedong still wanted to be important in the decision making of the country. This later causes an even greater conflict between the two social classes of the upper suburban class and the peasant class. This clash later resulted in the Cultural Revolution in where Mao Zedong favored the peasant class. However due the sheer numbers of the peasant class and considering that China’s main economy still remained agricultural, Mao Zedong still remained popular in the eyes of his fellow citizens, even though he was causing conflict. Showing how he caused instability and internal conflict within his own country.
Another reason how Mao Zedong can be considered as a failure to not only his people but as a leader is due to his forceful ideology. He was trying to forcefully control the people of china into something that he saw fit. He was trying to convert his people to communist after taking control of his political party. Although he was a highly recognized figure, he would manipulate the minds of the people around him into where he could be seen as a positive figure in the eyes of his people. Through lies and manipulation he was able to become a prominent figure at the cost of his people welfare.

One of the most crimes of the most cruel and known crimes committed by Islam Karimov was The Andijan Massacre, which took place in Andijan in May 13, 2005. In the Andijan massacre hundreds of innocent and peaceful civilians were murdered. Civilians were starting a peaceful protest against the trail of 23 businessmen who were arrested on charges of extremist activities “religious extremist”. The Uzbekistan government killed hundred of unarmed civilians following the orders of their president Islam Karimov. Karimov sent his troops to kill the people only for the simple fact that they were protesting, which is a human right people did not deserve to be punished for these actions. Karimov and the Uzbekistan government deny that it was a massacre saying, “it thwarted an Islamic uprising”. This was a very cruel action taken by Islam Karimov it was not and he is violating human rights.
Islam Karimov violates human rights as well; he took away civilian’s rights to freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. Karimov considers anyone who is against his beliefs or against his ideas he considers them “Islamic Terrorist”. Karimov tortures these people there are rumors saying that he boils people to death. Uzbekistan’s main religion is Islam; other religions feel threatened by the Uzbekistan’s government due to their religion. The Uzbekistan’s Government attacks civilians who try to protest or start a strike. Islam Karimov violates human rights but he still remains president.
Islam Karimov has been president for three terms now, yet it’s a law in Uzbekistan that a president can only serve two terms. If Islam and his government are corrupted why would people continue to elect Karimov as president? I know I wouldn’t continue to vote for Karimov’s victory. Islam Karimov is accused of fixing up elections to his benefits. Karimov has been president for way too long he has broken the Uzbekistan’s policy of presidential terms. This is just another law Islam has broken but yet no one is taking action to control his power.

Francois Duvalier
ReplyDeleteBy: Michael Crumpler
Francois Duvalier was born April 14, 1907. His father had been a judge with a strong feel for justice. Because of this, Francois grew up believing that the traditional way of ruling Haiti was best. Sometime later, in the 1930s, he founded the Haitian intellectual Griot movement, a group where members celebrated their African heritage and upbringing, even practicing in voodoo. In 1934, Francois graduated from the Haitian National University Medical School. Then, in 1939, he married Simone Ovide, and had three daughters.
In about 1954, Duvalier abandoned medicine and moved into hiding after opposing the new rule of Paul Magloire. Then, in 1956, all of Magloire’s political opponents were appeased and Duvalier came out of hiding and immediately into the presidential candidate elections. Luckily, Duvalier had a lot of friends on the countryside, and, with a little help from the army and bribing a few candidates, Duvalier was the most favored. Though the election was not entirely valid, it turned out to be one of the most honest elections of Haitian history. Francois Duvalier was elected president and immediately started to reform Haiti’s government.
Duvalier’s new government was a brutal and unforgiving. He established the Tontons Macoutes, or “bogeymen”, a sort of secret police that bribed and murdered many of Duvalier’s enemies. For ten years (1950 - 1960) Duvalier’s new “Police force” terrorized the citizens. After yet another change to the reforms of Haiti, the U.S. started to take action. The American Agency for International Development (AID) withdrew from Haiti and the U.S. suspended their relations with the country as well. Soon after this development, Duvalier decided that he wanted to keep himself in this seat of power. He persuaded the Legislative Chamber to rewrite the 1957 constitution, and in 1964, was declared president for life. He then directed the National Assembly to allow his newborn son, Jean Claude Duvalier, to succeed him. Francois Duvalier died on April 22, 1971.
Charles Taylor
ReplyDeleteBy: Gabriela Calderon
Charles Taylor used children as young as 8 years old for military purpose. Ms. Hollis the lead prosecutor confirmed that with the evidence she found the children were involved in the Conflict of Liberia and possibly in the Western African Countries 11 year Conflict. Although Mr. Taylor denied this and claimed that he had no idea about what had been going on it is seen as if he was taking advantage of the young children in all the ways possible. This is one of the many ways he took advantage of the children.
Another way of taking advantage of not only the children now, but of many women was raping them. He believed in using rape as a weapon therefore he encouraged all his followers to do so. They raped many innocent women, mainly the ones surrounding them and didn’t see any wrong in it at all. By doing this he destroyed many families and the men’s way of thinking. Charles Taylor made the bad things seem ok no matter how bad it’ll physically or emotionally hurt someone. His way of thinking and being drastically changed the way people thought but most of all lived. Rape had played a big role in the Liberian Civil War in 1989.
In addition Charles played a leading role in the Liberian Civil War. In 1989 he led several hundred rebels into invading Côte d’Ivoire. They burned down villages, raped innocent woman and just basically killed whoever came to sight. The war lasted about 6 years and in the end there was still no peace brought. The Liberian Civil War caused the lives of 250,000 lives to die and the blame for that goes to Charles Taylor. He influenced the war and brought more problems not only to himself but to all the people.

Mullah Omar by Crystal Murguia
Mullah Omar was in help in the September 09, 2001 with Osama Bin Laden. I think this would be the most terrible things he’s done, reason for was because he killed lots of innocent people and people’s family members. Osama and Mullah hijacked two airplanes and crashed them into working buildings. This caused 9-11 we will always remember those innocent people and of course family that died that day, it was the most terrifying day for most people to go through and because of Mullah and Osama these changed lots of people emotionally.
He also had women be treated different just because they were women. Since he had became in power he made a law for just women saying they can’t get education. Another disturbing thing he did was if he seen women that had their nails painted he would chop off their nails because he didn’t want their nails to be painted. So, basically they had no freedom or rights when Mullah was in power in their country.
Lastly but not least he would kidnapped children for sex. He would torture them and sold them for money and lots of it. He gathered a troop of old mujahedeen buddies and Islamic students, attacked the warlord’s compound, freed the children, and hanged the warlord up high for all to see.

Teodoro got that many votes is through fear and be intimidating the people of Guinea into voting by threatening there families. He has continued to use this method through his rule of Guinea for 30 years and is continuing to rule with an iron fist.
Teodoro has also been known to not take no for an answer or being disrespected, telling him no or disrespecting him leads to dire consequences. He has been known to do a lot of inhumane things like eat a mans testicals, brains or liver while the man is still alive as a means of punishment. They have videos of him doing abusive things to people , the people of Guinea are so scared of this man that they call him a “god“.
Teodoro’ s power has increased over the years due to oil being drilled in Guinea. This has enabled him to rely less and less on his family and also to enrich his immediate family with properties in America and France
Hi Mister Hartshorn this is Daisy Briseno, there are many things that I find
ReplyDeleteinteresting in Lord of the flies and different options on why things happen the way that they did. First I think the reason that Simon had went up to the mountain was he was curious about what the blue float thing was. When Simon had went up there and seen the dead man with a blue Para shoot he then had cut off the strings to release what he yet thought was the beast. At that point he then knew that the beast was not what they thought was the beast but what was the beast was what was within a person.
Secondly what they thought they were supposed to be afraid of was only an imagination but really was what they were themselves. They were afraid of something they should have never feared because the thought of being on a island with things they have no clue on. How they were afraid of the beast had killed a innocent boy that had been trying to help them with there fear all along.
Lastly, Simon is very different from the others only because he is the type that misses home and wishes hit was a dream. He also gets very curious about everything on the island. He likes to distract himself despite the fact that he is stuck on the island was a possibility that he might never be found. Always in his own world trying to discover something new.
